3 BAHASA: Special bouquet to YB Hannah Yeoh, Mayor Datuk Fahlun, Yeoh's assistant Wong and DBKL road repair teams

 

I revived this blog out of sheer frustration—frustration that builds up every time I drive along Jalan Lang Emas and Jalan Bukit Maluri. It seems to me that the work attitude of DBKL staff has not changed since the 1990s, when I first began writing for the Malay Mail.

Despite raising my concerns privately with both Hannah and the new mayor, I received no response. It is not that I consider myself important, but the condition in which these roads are repaired is simply unacceptable. Instead of improving comfort and safety for motorists, the repairs leave behind uneven patches scattered along the ճանապարհ—making the drive worse than before.

Even though Hannah is one of my favourite ministers, whose performance is getting the attention of KLites, even she was not spared because I did not want to show any favouritism. Of course, I still have a soft spot for her due to her efforts to bring further reforms to the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. I am happy to see that she is continuing the legacy of her predecessor Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, just like what Dr Zaliha did to promote the fruits orchard in Putrajaya which was started by a predecessor. I hope she can continue with her good work for KL to turn it into a city of happenings for KLites, a capital city that has international standing besides making it more liveable like the city of Melbourne was named the world’s most liveable city for seven consecutive years, from 2011 to 2017, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) Global Liveability Index.

Public Must Start Doing Something

A similar issue had previously occurred at the junction between these two roads and Jalan Kepong Baru. Only after I escalated the matter to the former Mayor, Datuk Seri Maimunah, and the Federal Territories Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha, was the junction properly repaired. This raises a persistent question: why must intervention from the very top be required before the job is done properly?

If the public also make noise, the system will alert the top guys at DBKL regarding similar complaints. Usually it is the one person like me that has to do a lot in order to get things done, while others just enjoying the fruits of it all. It is about time that you as Kepong folks should do something about your roads. It is just as easy as downloading Timestamp camera (set the address, date, and GPS), take a picture or video, and send them to Aduan Pothole DBKL --

Look at this blog. One cannot help but wonder whether such poor workmanship is merely negligence—or something more deliberate. Is it possible that substandard work is left unchecked so that higher authorities appear ineffective? For this reason the Chief Secretary to the Federal Goverment and the Public Service Department (PSD) have to investigate.

The irony is that if the work had been carried out diligently in the first place—especially in response to public feedback submitted via Aduan Pothole DBKL through WhatsApp (+60 11-6239 6652)—I would have been among the first to commend their efforts.

Whether it is comfortable to admit or not, I was once told by a former director at DBKL that there had been attempts to undermine Dr Tan Seng Giaw, though his position as the Member of Parliament for Kepong was far too strong to be easily challenged.

It is therefore difficult not to feel uneasy. Behind the polite smiles of some civil servants, there may lurk intentions that do not align with the public good. Civil servants, by principle, should remain professional and impartial. Their duty is not to engage in political manoeuvring, but to serve the people faithfully and efficiently.

Now, why did I title this blogpost as "A Special Bouquet of flowers to YB Hannah Yeoh, her assistant Wong and DBKL repair teams"? I mean especially the road repair teams who worked hard at night to improve the roads we travel on. They deserve the credit mention as well. Here are the pictures and the communication from Hannah's assistant whom I only know as Wong. I hope to connect with him more to help Hannah solve more problems on the ground which DBKL for all these years have neglected.

Regarding the issues that you've raised in your blog post, DBKL has started infrastructure repair works along Jalan Lang Emas heading towards Jalan Taman Bukit Maluri (Below DUKE highway). These works includes upgrading of the drainage system and resurfacing of the road. Currently DBKL started works on the drainage system and repaired the potholes temporarily. The resurfacing works is will start on 25th July.

For the issue on Jalan Kiara 3, DBKL repaired the road on 25th May 2026.

We are working closely with DBKL to carry out road repairs across Segambut, ensuring that each affected road is addressed in a systematic and timely manner. Below are some pictures of the drainage works being carried out on site and repaired potholes. I will keep you updated as works progress.

Saya menghidupkan semula blog ini kerana kekecewaan yang memuncak—kekecewaan yang saya rasakan setiap kali memandu di sepanjang Jalan Lang Emas dan Jalan Bukit Maluri. Pada pandangan saya, sikap kerja kakitangan DBKL tidak banyak berubah sejak tahun 1990-an, iaitu ketika saya mula menulis untuk Malay Mail.

Walaupun saya telah membangkitkan perkara ini secara peribadi kepada Hannah dan juga Datuk Bandar baharu, saya tidak menerima sebarang maklum balas. Bukannya saya menganggap diri saya penting, tetapi keadaan pembaikan jalan-jalan ini langsung tidak boleh diterima. Sepatutnya ia meningkatkan keselesaan dan keselamatan pengguna jalan raya, namun yang berlaku sebaliknya—tampalan yang tidak rata bertaburan di sepanjang jalan, menjadikan pemanduan lebih teruk daripada sebelumnya.

Walaupun Hannah merupakan salah seorang menteri kegemaran saya dan prestasinya mendapat perhatian warga KL, beliau juga tidak terkecuali daripada kritikan ini kerana saya tidak mahu bersikap berat sebelah. Namun begitu, saya tetap menghargai usaha beliau dalam membawa reformasi kepada Kuala Lumpur. Saya gembira melihat beliau meneruskan legasi pendahulunya, Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, sebagaimana Dr Zaliha meneruskan usaha membangunkan dusun buah-buahan di Putrajaya yang dimulakan oleh generasi sebelumnya. Saya berharap Hannah dapat terus memperkukuh usaha menjadikan Kuala Lumpur sebuah bandar yang dinamik, bertaraf antarabangsa, dan lebih selesa didiami—seperti Melbourne yang pernah dinobatkan sebagai bandar paling boleh didiami di dunia selama tujuh tahun berturut-turut dari 2011 hingga 2017.

Masyarakat Juga Perlu Bertindak

Masalah yang sama pernah berlaku di persimpangan antara jalan-jalan ini dengan Jalan Kepong Baru. Hanya selepas saya memanjangkan perkara ini kepada bekas Datuk Bandar, Datuk Seri Maimunah, dan Menteri Wilayah Persekutuan, Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha, barulah persimpangan tersebut dibaiki dengan sempurna. Ini menimbulkan persoalan: mengapa perlu campur tangan pihak atasan sebelum sesuatu kerja dilakukan dengan betul?

Sekiranya orang ramai turut bersuara, sistem akan memberi amaran kepada pihak atasan DBKL tentang aduan yang berulang. Selalunya hanya segelintir individu seperti saya perlu bersusah payah untuk menyelesaikan masalah, manakala yang lain hanya menikmati hasilnya. Sudah tiba masanya penduduk Kepong memainkan peranan. Caranya mudah—muat turun aplikasi Timestamp Camera (tetapkan alamat, tarikh dan GPS), ambil gambar atau video, dan hantar kepada Aduan Pothole DBKL:

Oleh itu, sukar untuk tidak berasa gusar. Di sebalik senyuman segelintir penjawat awam, mungkin terdapat niat yang tidak selari dengan kepentingan awam. Hakikatnya, penjawat awam harus kekal profesional dan berkecuali. Tanggungjawab mereka adalah untuk berkhidmat kepada rakyat, bukan terlibat dalam percaturan politik.

Mengapa Tajuk Ini?

Mengapa saya menamakan blog ini “Sejambak bunga istimewa kepada YB Hannah Yeoh, pembantunya Wong, dan pasukan pembaikan jalan DBKL”?

Ini termasuk penghargaan kepada pasukan pembaikan jalan yang bekerja keras pada waktu malam demi memperbaiki jalan yang kita gunakan. Mereka juga wajar diberikan pengiktirafan.
